Saratoga Farmers’ Market Moves Outside

The Saratoga Farmers’ Market offers locally grown and locally produced goods!  Come experience the entirely vendor-run genuinely local and producer only market. In contrast to some markets that boast ‘local’ products, everything offered at this market hails from Schenectady, Reneselaer, Saratoga and Washington Counties, including: fresh greens, seasonal vegetables, baked goods, artisan cheese, apples, meats, homemade soup, jams, honey, milk, ice cream, eggs, and so much more. Purchasing locally farmed and produced foods also supports your community economically and ecologically.

According to The True Food Network, upwards of 70% of processed foods found in mass chain super markets are Genetically Engineered- everything from soda to condiments. The Saratoga Farmers’ Market offers farm fresh alternatives to these genetically altered foods.

The Summer Market opens with grand festivities on Saturday, May 1st in the pavilions on High Rock Ave. in downtown Saratoga Springs.

Market Vendor Highlights:

Homestead Artisans Enterprises-

Liza & Dave Porter (Fort Edward, NY)

personal recommendation: white cloud cheese- a soft creamy cheese akin to brie and camembert- great for spreading on toasted pieces of baguette

They raise goats!

Ballston Lake Apiaries-

Rick Green (Clifton Park, NY)

personal recommendation: The blueberry honey is perfect for mixing with a bit champagne vinegar for a refreshing and sweet vinaigrette to garnish a summer salad.

Started by Rick Green 25 years ago, Ballston Lake Apiaries is situated on 28 acres in Clifton park. Brilliant products include: three types of honey (raw, light, and dark), an array of candles, skin cream, pollen, and balsamic concentrate produced with honey.

Battenkill Valley Creamery-

Family Farm started in 1945  (Salem, NY)

personal recommendation: Creamy Chocolate Milk!

Battenkill Creamery sells milk with NO synthetic growth hormones in glass bottles that can be returned and reused. Super Premium Ice Cream is also available sans high fructose corn syrup (the Black Raspberry is incredible).

Kilpatrick Family Farm-

Family Farm started in 2003 (Middle Granville, NY)

personal recommendation: lovely greens (spinach), rainbow carrots, and tasty sugar and golden beets!

The Kilpatrick Family Farm also supplies some local restaurants with fresh grown produce: Beekman Street Bistro, One Caroline Street Bistro, Mouzon House, Max London’s.

Argyle Cheese Farmer-

Marge (Cheesemaker) and David (Farmer) Randles (Argyle, NY)

personal recommendation: seasoned cheese curds (garlic and herb, dill and chives, sun dried tomato) are perfect atop a salad, sandwhich or just as a snack alone.

Argle Cheese Farmer is the first in the area to offer yogurt in recyclable and returnable glass containers!
