Cuomo to appoint former N.Y. Comptroller Carl McCall as SUNY chair

Former New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall is reportedly to be tapped as the next chair of the board of trustees for the State University of New York, according to sources close to Capital Tonight.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is set to make the announcement this afternoon.

McCall, 76, was the state’s financial officer from 1993 to 2002, when he sought the 2002 Democratic nomination for governor against Cuomo. McCall defeated Cuomo and went on to face then-Gov. George E. Pataki (McCall lost that race).

McCall has been a member of the board for several years and will succeed Southern Tier-based Carl Hayden.
